Upper Hunter Wedding Venues

Are you currently engaged and looking for some beautiful Upper Hunter Wedding Venues? I am a wedding photographer who does weddings all the time in the Upper Hunter Valley, so I’d love to share with you some of the venues that I think are pretty awesome. And some that I haven’t photographed a wedding at, but that I think would be awesome.

The Upper Hunter Valley is located just northwest of the lower Hunter Valley. Some of the major towns in the region are Scone, Denman and Aberdeen. it is also the largest horse-rearing region in Australia. And driving through the region you will see some massive horse stud farms everywhere.

The Upper Hunter is a region I think has so much potential for beautiful weddings. The landscape is just incredible. There is more untouched land, it is less crowded and there are more mountains, valleys. It is amazing, and in my opinion, there are so many areas that are much more beautiful than the lower Hunter.

The only issue holding the Upper Hunter Valley back from doing a lot of weddings is the fact that there isn’t as much accommodation available up there. And the wedding venues can’t do large numbers without couples needing to hire a marquee. So at most (if not all) venues, you would need to hire a marquee for anything like 50 to 100 people. And quality marquee hire is not cheap.

But the Upper Hunter Valley offers a wedding in a totally unique location, in a beautiful location your guests may ever have gone to. And photos that most people would never get. I really feel that you could get absolutely incredible wedding photos in the Upper Hunter.

So here are some Upper Hunter Valley wedding venues you should check out.

1. Two Rivers Denman

Located in the Upper Hunter, just on the outskirts of Denman is a stunning winery called Two Rivers Denman. This winery has some of the most scenic landscapes and wonderful vines anywhere.

The vineyard is gorgeous with rolling hills filled with vines. And at the bottom of the hill is the cellar door. There is accommodation available onsite, with a large country cottage. And wedding ceremonies take place in a pergola at the top of the hill overlooking the vineyards.

Two Rivers Denman is very much a winery that sometimes does weddings. I have photographed a wedding there, so I know they can do them. The wedding I photographed there was one of the wettest weddings I have ever done. And I would love to go back and shoot another one that wasn’t quite so wet.

If you do want to have a wedding reception there, you would need to hire a marquee as the cellar door is really not big enough to fit too many people in there. But this place is a photographer’s dream and I can see amazing photos taken at this Upper Hunter wedding venue.

Address: 2 Yarrawa Rd, Denman NSW

2. Moonan Cottage

Located near the World Heritage-listed rainforests of the Barrington Tops State Forest is Moonan Cottage. An elegant and beautiful Upper Hunter wedding venue.

Moonan Cottage has a long rich history in the area. It was built in 1881 and was the original Moonan Brook schoolhouse. In 1970 the school was closed and the NSW Forestry Corporation used the cottage as accommodation for its workers. And it is what you see today.

The Cottage is a three-bedroom house that can accommodate up to 8 people. Off to the side of the house is The Bunk House which can sleep another 17 people. This means that once you arrive at this Upper Hunter wedding venue, you can relax for the whole weekend, knowing that you don’t need to travel anywhere else.

Wedding ceremonies take place under the stunning Camphor Laurel tree and there are so many beautiful locations for wedding photos throughout the property. Wedding receptions can take place outside under the stars or you can organise a marquee. This is a beautiful property in a beautiful location that would be wonderful for an intimate-style wedding.

Address: 455 Moonan Brook Rd, Moonan Brook NSW

3. Vines Restaurant at Hollydene Estate

Located on 350 acres of stunning countryside and with over fifty acres of vineyards, is the Vines Restaurant at Hollydene Estate. It is somewhere in between Jerrys Plains and Denman, surrounded by the rolling hills of Wollemi National Park and is a beautiful location for an amazing wedding.

Wedding ceremonies can take place out in the gardens with a stunning backdrop of vineyards and mountains. One of the best reasons you should get married at this Upper Hunter wedding venue is beautiful it is just perfect for wedding photos. It sits on a bit of a hill so you can get beautiful photos of yourself in this stunning landscape. And there is just so much land to explore. It really looks awesome!

Their wedding reception space holds up to 120 people and has a modern yet country feel to it. If you are looking for an awesome Upper Hunter wedding venue, then Vines Restaurant at Hollydene Estate should be high up on your list of venues to check out.

Address: 3483 Golden Hwy, Jerrys Plains NSW

4. The Cottage Scone

Built back in the 1860s The Cottage has a long history in the Scone community. It was originally a private hospital, a guest house, and then home to the Pastoral Lands Board. Today it is an amazing restaurant and sometimes Upper Hunter wedding venue.

As this is primarily a restaurant I would recommend having your wedding ceremony somewhere else. Somewhere outdoors in a beautiful location. Then come to the Cottage Scone for an amazing meal and reception. There are a number of spaces to choose from, both indoors and outdoors.

Seriously, check out their menu on their website and follow them on Instagram. Their food looks so good!

Address: 196 Kelly St, Scone NSW

5. Russley Rural Retreat

Russley Rural Retreat is a beautiful five-bedroom homestead in the Segenhoe Valley set of 12 acres of sweeping meadows and beautiful gardens. It sits right next to the Hunter River and the whole area is just so scenic and beautiful.

The historical farmhouse has been completely restored with a quirky twist. The five bedrooms make it perfect for wedding day preparation and a great place to stay for some of your family or guests.

Wedding ceremonies can take place anywhere on the property, and there are lots of photo opportunities around the property. The homestead itself is a great backdrop for photos, with its wrap-around verandahs that overlook the valley. Plus there are the gardens, paddocks, and the river for other photo locations.

For wedding receptions, you would need to organise a marquee and you can bring in your own caterers and alcohol.

The location and the charm of the homestead make this an awesome Upper Hunter wedding venue a wonderful choice.
